Apple admits to one screen problem but denies the other. According to the website (now taken down) flawedmusicplayer.com, complaints were made that using a microfiber cloth to clean the screen resulted in scratches. Apple claims the same screen is being used as in the regular iPod. Perhaps there is some manufacturing problem that hasn't been resolved?
For people who have broken their screen without dropping it, Apple admits that there was a quality problem from one supplier. Supposedly this only affected .1% of the iPod Nanos out there. If your screen has been cracked, take it to Apple to get it replaced.
