Apple 'iPod Tax' and the missing remote port

News.com has a story on how Apple is charging somewhere in the range of 10% for iPod accessories that connect to the iPod dock connector. While it seemed strange that the new iPods would no longer have the remote connector near the headphone jack like previous full size iPods, now Apple's strategy seems clear. The 'made for ipod' program is only for accessories that connect to the dock connecter and not for things like cases. Thus by removing the remote port anyone who wants to electrically connect to the iPod must now pay Apple or face their wrath.
